If you are starting from scratch, then there are many payment providers who can easily set up an account for use online including Paypal and Google. Each of these can be configured to either forward customers to their own gateways or operate seamlessly with your site so that the customer does not even leave to pay. For the higher level of integration you will require an SSL certificate, which is a way of encrypting data, to accept payments.
