The smart business is the one that keeps an eye on the fast-forwarding world of internet interaction, especially when it comes internet use on hand-held devices and mobile phones. While it’s clear that many more people are now making grater use of their hand-held gadgets, such as iPhones and Androids, it’s also revealing to see what they are actually doing on these devices.
A new report by AdMob has found a wealth of information about mobile device usage.
Apparently, while Android and iPhone users download a similar number of apps every month and spend a similar amount of time using the apps, less than a quarter of Android users buy more than one app per month compared to 50% of iPhone users and 35% of iPod.
This means that if you want to reach Android users through an app, businesses will have more luck if the app is free.
The report unveils more vital data. It found that iPod touch users download 12 apps on average a month, which amounts to 37% more apps than iPhone and Android users. iPod touch users also spend 100 minutes a day using apps, which is 25% more time than iPhone and Android users.
The gender usage split is also interesting as 73% of Android users are male, compared with 57% of iPhone users and 54% iPod touch users. Added to this iPod touch users tend to be younger than those who use the other devices.
And with the iPad about to come on sale, there will be even greater access and use of apps.
Now perhaps it’s time to have a good think about your apps strategy… if, indeed, you have one.
