Demand outstripping supply at Apple

Jodi

Demand for iPads and iPhone 4s has far exceeded Apple’s expectations, the company has stated. Apple has admitted that it had a backlog of orders at the end of the last quarter and that they are “still selling both of those products as fast as we can make them”.

Not only are they selling every iPad and iPhone 4 that they can produce but they also claim to be “working around the clock” to address the supply/demand imbalance.
Some commentators have questioned whether Apple created a “shortage” of these devices simply to make more of a buzz about the iPad and IPhone 4, but the company denies this.

“We do not purposely create a shortage for buzz,” Apple’s Tim Cook is reported as saying. “I’m not sure where that comes from, but that is not our objective. We would like to fill every customer’s orders as quickly as we can.”Apple has been taken by surprise by the iPad’s sales rate.

Cook added: “We went into the iPad thinking that planning a one-million-per-month capacity was a very bold move. A lot of the industry analysts were predicting that we would only sell somewhere around that number for the whole calendar year. As you know we did one million the first month, then the second million the second month, and the third million the third month.”

Sounds like Apple is one company sitting in a fortunate economic position.

Magazine sales benefit from online subscriptions

Jodi

More news that the internet is offering an expanding source of revenue for various businesses comes as a report estimates that on-line subscriptions will generate 24% of new business sales for magazines in 2010.

The claim by the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) comes after it was revealed that the percentage of subscriptions generated from the Internet has increased steadily since 2006.

The report also shows that the internet is now the largest subscription source for one in five magazines in America. No doubt, the UK market will match these stats, or else follow in the same upward curve.

Other highlights from the report include:
•    In 2010 it’s believed that the Internet will represent 13% of total subscription sales (new and renewal)
•    Other leading internet sources include email, cross-selling and third-party partnerships and affiliates.
•    93% of internet subscriptions are sold direct to publishers.
•    The leading subscription agents are Amazon.com and Magazines.com.

Due to recent technology such as the Ipad, consumers will now choose to subscribe to Ipad compatible magazines also. You can speak with us about your website and Ipad web development.

New mobile phone credit card app

Jodi

A new app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices will now allow anyone to accept credit cards via their mobile phone. Of course, it was only a matter of time before this development occurred and it seems that Square, whose CEO is also one of the co-founders of Twitter, have got themselves in on this particular act. And if you need a credit card reader Square will send one out for free.

Be aware, though, that Square can’t handle refunds or delete transactions, but no doubt this facility will not be long in happening too. This app development could be very useful for businesses, such as contractors who are mobile themselves.
