“Conversion” is a vital part of running an ecommerce business because the key to making a profit is turning visitors to your on-line store into paying customers.

While advertising your ecommerce site is important, so is the optimisation of your site.

Here we bring you some great tips for improving ecommerce conversions:

  • Looks are important: Customers can’t actually hold and feel the product so make sure they can see the product from a range of different angles. Offer a zoom-in function, too. And, it should go without saying, that high quality photos are vital.
  • Tell people what they want to know: Customers do want to know about product features but, more importantly, they will want to know the benefits of a product. For example, a tent that is waterproof is more important to customers than knowing it has double stitched seams.
  • Don’t copy: Always rewrite the existing manufacturer’s description of products to make your site different form the rest.
  • What’s in stock?: Tell customers how many products are in stock or if it’s running low. If you’re running low on stock urge them to buy today to avoid disappointment.
  • When will you deliver? Be realistic about delivery times but the faster the better. Offer free delivery if possible.
  • Add reviews: Legitimate reviews of products are a great traffic driver. Customers like to see what other people think of products before they commit to buy themselves.
  • Carts and wishlists: Surveys show that many customers add products to carts but then do not close the sale that day. Make it easy for customers to save their wishlist of products and retrieve it when they return to your site.
